Growing up in the home of rich culture in all of the arts, I was exposed to the DIY music scene of the city when I was only 15 years old! HS Freshman year me did not know what I was signing myself up for. A couple of accquaintances I had around the time either had their own bands, attending these shows, already practicing music journalism, and many other music related things. From then just simply attending these shows, I went from just being a curious little guy, to being able to help book bands myself to places like MilkBoy, PhilaMOCA, Kung Fu Necktie, or even venues across the country for tours. I learned how to set up stages (or uh...a basement/living room to be a stage) and messed around with tons of audio equipment very early on just because I was a silly and rebellious kid who decided to get out when I could, make the connections I could make, and see where life would take me. I enrolled at UArts in 2019 majoring in Graphic Design because I thought I needed to be proficient in an instrument and perfectly understand music theory to get into the School of Music. Once I got to understand the environment and meet other MBET majors, I went to the program director and asked how to apply. Went through making an online portfolio of previous concert photography I've done and writing a background of my life just like this one, and made it in. On my birthday in May 2023, just a few days before graduating, I presented my final project and paper which was my own hosted DIY show and a paper on the history of queer electronic dance music to the same program director, and he told me to keep going and I will eventually get what I'm chasing for. That is exactly what I am doing today. It's not easy, but no one ever said it would be.
